EditThe United Auto Workers (UAW) union represents more than 400,000 active members primarily from "autos and auto parts, health care, casino gambling, and higher education."
On August 25, 2023, following negotiations with the Big Three US automobile manufacturers, General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis (formerly Chrysler; all three are headquartered in Detroit) the UAW announced that:
"the union’s strike authorization vote passed with near universal approval from the 150,000 union workers at Ford, General Motors and Stellantis. . . The vote does not guarantee a strike will be called, only that the union has the right to call a strike if the Big Three refuse to reach a fair deal."
The existing UAW contracts with the Big Three expire at 11:59 PM on September 14.
