Question
Will Taylor Swift's next album (‘The Tortured Poets Department’) break the all-time record for debut week streams?
Judgement rule
The album will be released 19 April. Weekly charts are typically tracked from Friday to Thursday (new music is released by the music industry to the American market on Fridays). A new chart is published the following Tuesday,
The current debut week record for streams is 776,481,256: Taylor Swift, Midnights (3am Edition) in 2022..
Note I have also seen 785,253,075 as the total, but we will use the first value.
Expiry notes:
I think the stream totals are just for Spotify. I will look for a source that also lists the 776M toral above to make things comparable. The Other category will occur if there are no totals by the end of the semester. If the totals come out before the expiry time and the market is not expired in a timely fashion, bets made after the outcome is known will be refunded.
